Hoping the third time is a charm: U.S. swimmer Diana Nyad, bottom, begins her swim to Florida from Havana, Cuba, on Saturday. Less than a week before she turns 63 years old, Nyad launched her third bid to set an open-water record by swimming from Havana to the Florida Keys without a protective shark cage. A writer, journalist and motivational speaker, she said she hopes to inspire people of all ages to live active lives. “Instead of staying on the couch for a lifetime and letting this precious time go by, why not be bold?” she said.
