Council violates rights

By a vote of 6-1, the esteemed members of the City Council proclaimed panhandling OK outside of the business area of town. Why just outside the business area and not all of our fair city? These same business people have a panhandling scheme for the benefit of their favorite charities and didn’t want their panhandling to be affected.

The City Council buried it behind the facade of “public safety,” the magic words used against the people of the United States since 9/11 in order to strip away some rights and infringe on others.

It doesn’t matter what party you belong to anymore. It’s time to end this kind of hypocrisy at some level of government. It violates the U.S. Constitution’s concept of equality under the law. Blatantly. If not here, now, on this issue, then when, where, and on what issue? Just because it’s not you this time? Don’t doubt that any precedent has been set? It will be used against you at the soonest opportunity to make the business community a profit.

Special privileges for one group over another? I thought we fought a revolution about that.
