In brief: Man dies after motorcycle hit utility truck making U-turn

A 59-year-old Spokane man was killed Friday morning in a collision between a motorcycle and a commercial vehicle 16 miles north of Spokane on U.S. Highway 2.

John C. Sanderson was pronounced dead at the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Sanderson was driving his 1994 Honda motorcycle north on Newport Highway near the intersection with Bailey Road about 9:20 a.m. Friday. Garry D. Baumgartner Jr., 37, of Valleyford, was also headed north and stopped his 1993 Ford utility truck along the shoulder of the road, attempting to make a U-turn, the WSP said. Sanderson’s motorcycle hit the truck broadside.

Baumgartner was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat belt, the WSP said.

Sanderson was wearing a helmet.

Avista seeks public comment on North Idaho rate drops

Customers may submit public comment on Avista Corp.’s proposal to lower natural gas and electricity rates in Idaho this autumn by a combined 8 percent.

If regulators accept the utility’s rate changes, the average residential gas bill will drop by $4.42 per month, and electricity bills will be $1.09 lower.

The request by Avista takes into account the price of wholesale gas and electricity, along with such things as employee pay and equipment.

Avista sells electricity to 125,000 customers in North Idaho, and 75,000 natural gas customers.

Spokane man implicated in child pornography ring

A Spokane man has been implicated in a child pornography ring that allegedly broadcast live images of sexual abuse over the Internet.

Brian James Entzminger, a 2007 graduate of Gonzaga Prep who, until recently, had been living in San Diego, was taken into custody by FBI agents last week in Spokane, authorities said. He was being held at the Spokane County Jail pending transfer to Southern California.

According to U.S. District Court documents, Entzminger is alleged to have watched a webcast in which a man had sex with a young boy in 2011, and to have emailed video clips that year of sexual encounters between men and boys. He’s charged in U.S. District Court in San Diego with receipt and distribution of images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Authorities also have arrested Robert S. Kolodzy, a college instructor in Gaffney, S.C., who is accused of having sex with a young boy while webcasting the encounter.
