Agreed Stoke says it has settled terms with U.S. midfielder Maurice Edu after agreeing to an undisclosed transfer fee with Glasgow Rangers. Stoke made the announcement Saturday on its website. The 26-year-old Edu will complete his move after passing a medical and receiving international clearance. If the deal goes through, Edu will join U.S. defender Geoff Cameron, who recently arrived from Houston in the MLS.

Selected European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal has chosen fellow Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez as his fourth and final vice-captain. Jimenez joins Paul McGinley, Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn for Europe’s defense of its Ryder Cup title against the United States at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago from Sept. 28-30. Olazabal will choose his two “wild-card” players on Monday with England’s Ian Poulter and Belguim’s Nicolas Colsaerts the leading contenders.

Joined LSU coach Johnny Jones says former University of New Orleans and Memphis guard Charles Carmouche has enrolled at LSU and will join the Tigers for the upcoming men’s basketball season. The 6-foot-3 Carmouche played two seasons at New Orleans before transferring to Memphis, where he played the past two years. Carmouche, who is from New Orleans, has played in 92 games in his college career with 75 starts. He has averaged 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

Suspended Auburn coach Gene Chizik has suspended center Reese Dismukes following the sophomore’s arrest on a public intoxication charge. Chizik said Friday night he is “very disappointed” in Dismukes for his irresponsible behavior. The suspension comes eight days before the Tigers open against Clemson in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome. Chizik did not say how long Dismukes’ suspension would last. The Lee County’s sheriff’s office said the starter was released on a $300 bond.

• Kansas has suspended starting longsnapper Justin Carnes for the first three games of the season because of a violation of team rules. No details of the violation were mentioned in a statement released by Jayhawks coach Charlie Weiss. Carnes was the Kansas snapper for extra points and field goals in 10 of 12 games last season.

Celebrated Distance runner Mo Farah and his wife, Shabba, are the parents of twin girls, two weeks after he won a second gold medal in the 5,000 meters at the London Olympics. British media reports say the 29-year-old Farah still plans to compete in the Diamond League meet today in Birmingham, England. He will attempt to break Steve Ovett’s 34-year record of running two miles in 8 minutes, 13.51 seconds.
