Obituary: Howe, Carl Harold


HOWE, Carl H.

Carl Harold Howe: born April 4, 1920 in Coeur d’Alene, ID to Anton and Hulda Marie (Borsum) Howe; passed away August 20, 2012 in Spokane.
He spent his childhood on the family farm at Rathdrum Prairie then moved to Potlatch where he graduated from high school in 1938.

He was a track star, member of the glee club and known as the “Songbird of Potlatch.”

He enlisted in the Army in 1942, spent three years in the South Pacific and participated in seven initial landings.

He earned the Bronze Star.
He met Nettie Irene Lowery at their workplace in Seattle.

They married in 1947 and spent 63 years together until Irene passed in 2010.
His lifelong career was in wholesale carpets and home furnishings.

He loved the outdoors.

Irene and Carl built a rough-hewn cabin by themselves on Priest Lake.

They spent many wonderful summers taking the children fishing, swimming and water skiing.

Carl enjoyed his family.


He is survived by his daughter, Karen and son-in-law Doug Pottratz; son, Steve and daughter-in-law Mary; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Graveside inurnment will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11am and will take place at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA.
