Obituary: Smith, Joseph Chester

Age 84


SMITH,
Joseph Chester

12-16-1927 to 8-14-2012

Survived by wife Josephine; brother Bill (Hemet, CA), sister Hester Gable (Apopka, FL), children Mike, Maralee, and Marty; step children Charlene, Leslie, Steve and Tracy; and was blessed with many grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and countless dear and invaluable friends.

Joe was a lifelong educator, from teaching at Nine Mile Falls, WA to a superintendency at Deer Park, WA.

Joe received his BA Degree at Whitworth College, his MA at WSU and his PHD at University of Idaho.

He had a great passion for hunting, skiing, flying, boating, so many outdoor sports, including piloting his own plane, boats and RVs.

He served his country in the Army in World War II; and the Air force during the Korean War.

He and his “Sweetheart” Josephine spent his retirement years traveling throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada (his children joke about him spending their inheritance) and wintering in Indio, CA.

Memorial services will be held at Mead United Methodist Church, 12611 N Wilson St., Mead, WA on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to “49 Degrees North Ski Patrol” at the following address: 49 Degrees North Ski Patrol, c/o Walt Seidel, 5211 W. Staley, Deer Park, WA 99006 noting that it is in memory of Joseph Smith.
