Cuba: Cholera outbreak over; 417 cases, 3 dead
HAVANA (AP) — Cuba says a cholera outbreak on the island has run its course with more than 10 days since the last confirmed case of the infectious disease.
A notice from the Health Ministry gives a final toll of 417 people sickened and three dead.
It blames heavy rains and high temperatures this year for raising the risk of diarrheic diseases.
The notice says the outbreak originated in contaminated water systems in the eastern city of Manzanillo, Granma province.
Cases elsewhere in Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Havana were detected in people who had traveled from Manzanillo.
