Locals have big rodeo weekend

Three local winners highlighted the North Idaho Fair and Rodeo, which highlighted a lucrative weekend for a couple of them.

Cheney barrel racer Pam Capper, Grand Coulee bull rider Shane Proctor and Colbert tie-down roper Tyson Durfey all won at the Coeur d’Alene PRCA rodeo. Durfey picked up the biggest check, $1,777, for his 9.2 second run. Proctor scored an 86 on Dirt Nap of the Flying Diamond Rodeo Company to earn $1,470 and Capper won $1,325 for her 17.43 run.

It was a big weekend for Capper. She won $1,931 for her 17.28 run at the Kitsap Stampede in Brementon but the big check, $3,194, came from defending her title at the Horse Heaven Round-Up in Kennewick with a 17.34 second run.

Proctor, the defending world champion, did Capper one better at Kennewick, winning the bull riding for the third straight year, marking an 89 on Flying 5 bull No. 928 to win $4,332.
