Condon fixed on Straub from start

Spokane now has a new police chief. Mayor David Condon certainly can’t think that his tactics in choosing the chief weren’t easily visible. The people you serve in this community are not idiots. It was obvious from the beginning who the choice would be. What other candidate received initial exposure in the press before the interviews started, and received an announcement that they had been asked by Condon to apply for the position? I have concerns that finding a person with “metro” experience, and no experience as a police officer, could result in too much delay coming up to speed.

Mr. Mayor, I hope that the rest of your tenure does not consist of this kind of backhanded maneuvering. In doing so, you spent needless taxpayer dollars to justify your position by bringing in three candidates and traveling around the country in the name of research.

Carol Belton
