Philadelphia completes unbeaten NFL preseason
Trent Edwards threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns to help the host Philadelphia Eagles finish unbeaten in the preseason for the first time since 1995 with a 28-10 win over the New York Jets.
After failing to score a TD in their first three games, the Jets (0-4) ended the drought when third-string QB Greg McElroy connected with Terrance Ganaway on a 6-yard TD.
The Jets are the first team in 35 years – matching the 1977 Atlanta Falcons – to go three preseason games without a TD.

Texans 28, Vikings 24: Trindon Holliday had his third kick return for a TD of the preseason as host Houston beat Minnesota.
Titans 10, Saints 6: New Orleans took no chances in its final preseason game, resting all its starters in a loss to host Tennessee in Nashville.
Lions 38, Bills 32: Matthew Stafford threw a 24-yard TD pass to Calvin Johnson and host Detroit went on to beat Buffalo.
Bears 28, Browns 20: Chicago’s Josh McCown threw two touchdown passes in the first half in a win over host Cleveland.
Jaguars 24, Falcons 14: Kevin Elliott had a 77-yard TD reception as Jacksonville beat Atlanta at Jacksonville, Fla.
Rams 31, Ravens 17: Sam Bradford threw three touchdown passes and host St. Louis beat Baltimore.
Broncos 16, Cardinals 13: Matt Prater kicked a 44-yard field goal as time expired and Denver beat Arizona at Glendale, Ariz.

A three-member panel finished hearing an NFL Players Association appeal challenging Commissioner Roger Goodell ’s authority over four players punished in the league’s bounty investigation of the New Orleans Saints. Panel members say they’ll try to issue an opinion next week. … The players’ union has approved a rule change on the eve of the season that will allow one designated player from each team to return from injured reserve instead of sitting out the entire year. Under the new rule, one “marquee player” placed on injured reserve will be able to return to practice after the sixth week of the schedule and to the lineup after the eighth week. That player must be on the 53-man roster after the final preseason cut, which comes today. The player’s injury must be one that prevents him from practicing or playing football for six weeks. … Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson was listed in good condition after being taken to a hospital. … The NFL tried to shut down lawsuits filed by thousands of former players who say they suffered or fear suffering permanent brain injuries from football-related concussions, calling the issue a “labor dispute” that should be resolved not by courts but by terms of the collective bargaining agreement. In a motion to dismiss the suits, the NFL argues that the CBA covers safety and health rules – while delegating to each team decisions about a player’s condition and when they should return to play. The league said they lack specific proof of concealment.
