Fugitives arrested, rejailed after escaping from facility

U.S. marshals apprehended two fugitives who walked away from the Spokane Residential Reentry Center, where they were serving the end of their sentences.

Brandon Carson, 20, was arrested Nov. 13 by the Colville Tribal Police on a federal escape charge and transported to the Spokane County Jail.

Carson was serving a sentence for involuntary manslaughter when he walked away from the facility Nov. 4.

Wayne Mellgren, 32, who also walked away from the center Nov. 4, was arrested by U.S. marshals in the 2800 block of North Cincinnati Street.

He was arrested on an escape charge without incident and booked into Spokane County Jail. He had been serving a sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

At the time of his arrest, authorities say, he was in possession of a substance they believe to be methamphetamine.
