GATES, Margaret “Peggy” (Meenach) (Age 87) Our beautiful and beloved mother passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Thursday, November 29, 2012. She was born on December 16, 1924, in Spokane, WA to her parents, TJ and Edith Meenach. She attended North Central High School and on June 28, 1947, she married the love of her life, the returning POW, 2nd Lieutenant, Daniel W. Gates “Bud”. They were married for 58 years when he died on January 12, 2006. Peggy lived a full and gracious life, filled with family and many friends. She and Bud owned and ran The Snob Shop, a successful downtown consignment shop for 10 years. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of Northwood Presbyterian, and then later, Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. She was a long time member of Wi Nu Ke Garden Club. She and Bud spent many winters in Palm Desert and summers with family and friends at their home, a wonderful gathering place in North Spokane in the Indian Trail area. Peggy was deeply loved by her six children: Nancy Martin, Danna Beal (Bellevue, WA), Dan Gates, Jr., Cindy McMahon, Deb Prouty (and husband, Ralph), and Tammy Von Steuben (and husband, Kevin), her 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Genevieve Arbon, Betty Young, and brother, Tom Meenach. She had many nieces and nephews who will also miss her greatly. Peggy lived at Fairwood Retirement Village where she was a sparkling light and friend to so many people. She was the hostess for the monthly Hi Neighbor Day and was always dedicated to giving joy and friendship to others. She touched the lives of countless people throughout her life. The family expresses great appreciation to the staff at Holy Family Hospital for their loving care and compassion. They also appreciate the gentle reassurance and guidance from Hospice of Spokane. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Whitworth Presbyterian Church, 312 West Hawthorne Road Spokane, WA 99218. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210 or Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Rd., Spokane, WA 99218.
