British betting shops busy after royal baby news
LONDON – Who’s cashing in on the royal pregnancy? Betting shops.
A day after royal officials announced that Prince William’s wife, Kate, is pregnant, Britain’s betting agencies have set the odds on a range of possible wagers.
Want to bet on the possibility of a multiple birth? Paddy Power is giving 8-1 odds on twins, 100-1 on triplets and 500-1 on quadruplets or more.
Want to take a guess on the name? Ladbrokes is giving 16-1 odds on Catherine, 12-1 on Diana and 10-1 on Charles.
William Hill, meanwhile, is giving 33-1 odds on whether the baby will be a Vogue cover model before the age of 18.
Prince William on Tuesday visited Kate at King Edward VII hospital in London, where she spent a second day being treated for acute morning sickness.
Royal officials announced Monday that Kate was suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that can lead to dehydration or worse if left untreated. She was expected to remain hospitalized for several days.
