EWU lineman allowed just one sack this year
Steady wins the prize.
That and a lot of hard work, according to Eastern Washington offensive line coach Aaron Best, who reveled Tuesday in the selection of lineman Will Post as an All-American.
“He’s earned it,” Best said. “The guys who play next to him see one thing, but then to get the respect of of the guys who watch you on the field, that’s an unbiased opinion.”
Post, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound senior from Portland, was selected to the American Football Coaches Association All-America team, the AFCA announced
“I think that’s a great honor and shows that my hard work paid off,” Post said. “But I think it’s a team award, too.”
Post, who is also a team captain, has started every game at right offensive tackle in 2012, with 34 career starts in 43 games played. The first-team All-Big Sky selection allowed just one sack in the regular season out of 24 allowed by the Eagles.
He consistently grades out in the high 80s and low 90s, Best said.
His award is the 17th AFCA honor won by 16 different Eastern players, but he is the first offensive lineman to be recognized since Michael Roos (now with the Tennessee Titans) in 2004.
The Eagles have now had 19 offensive linemen earn All-America accolades in the last 20 years while winning 21 first-team All-Big Sky Conference honors.
Prior to Post, Chris Powers was the latest to earn both awards after helping lead EWU to the NCAA Division I title in 2010 and then earning the same honors as a senior in 2011.
