Ferris boys dash past Shadle Park

The Ferris boys basketball team made a fast start hold up in the second half.

The Saxons jumped out to a 13-point lead by halftime on their way to a 59-51 win over the visiting Shadle Park Highlanders in Greater Spokane League play Friday.

Cody Benzel led the Saxons (2-1 overall, 1-1 league) with 17 points and Jeff Hahn added 16. Jensen Rye had eight rebounds.

Shadle (1-3, 0-2) outscored Ferris 28-23 in the second half, but the Highlanders couldn’t climb any closer.

Sophomore George Pilimai led Shadle with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Skyler Kelley added 12 points.

Gonzaga Prep 76, North Central 38: The visiting Bullpups (2-1, 2-0) put four players in double-figure scoring as they raced to a 43-15 lead at halftime on their way to the easy win over the Indians (0-4, 0-2).

Sam Dowd led the way with 20 points, Max Gruber and Ryan Alexander had 13 each and Jacob Groh added 10 for G-Prep. Jamil Foster had nine for NC.

Mead 80, Rogers 58: The Panthers (3-1, 1-1) climbed all over the visiting Pirates (1-2, 0-2) in the first half.

The Panthers sprinted to a 47-27 lead by halftime. Mead was led by senior Gunnar Kayser’s 21 points and sophomore Brandon Petterson’s 19. Drew Harms scored all 10 of his points in the second quarter.

Carson Murray led Rogers with 16 points.

University 69, Mt. Spokane 57: The visiting Titans opened up what had been a tight game by outscoring the Wildcats 19-6 in the third quarter.

Brett Bailey led the Titans (3-0, 2-0) with 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Stu Stiles led Mt. Spokane (2-1, 1-1) with 26, including five 3-pointers.

Central Valley 42, Lewis and Clark 40: With their leading scorer in Los Angeles for an awards ceremony, the Bears still had enough to top the Tigers at LC. Austin Rehkow is in California tonight for the Herbalife 24 Chris Sailor Award honoring the top high school football place-kicker in the nation.

Sophomore guard Adam Chamberlain picked up the slack for CV (3-0, 2-0) with 13 points.

CV opened a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, but poor free-throw shooting caught up with the Bears, who made just 8 of 19.

LC (3-1, 1-1) took the lead at 34-32 but could hold off the Bears. The Tigers missed a tying shot with 4 seconds to go.

Dean Richey led LC with 11.
