Obituary: Barrington, Richard

BARRINGTON Richard Richard Barrington (47) of Long Beach California passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 6th, 2012, from complications following surgery.

Richard is preceded in death by his father John Barrington Sr., and leaves behind his partner Dan Parizek, his mother Judy, brothers John (Tammy), and Jeff (Jolene), nieces Haley and Emma and nephews Beau and Jace.

Richard was born in Spokane, Washington February 4th 1965 and graduated from Shadle Park High School.

After graduation he moved to Arizona where he worked in the hotel catering business.

In 1988 Richard moved back to Spokane and earned his teaching degree from Eastern Washington University.

He took his desire to teach to southern California and for the last 12 years taught 7th and 8th grade science at Lexington Junior High School in Cypress, California.

He was the school district’s teacher of the year in 2009-2010.

Richard’s passion for teaching young people is evidenced by the numerous relationships he made with his colleagues and students.

Just recently Richard, along with Toni Godfrey, spear- headed the Lexington Foundation, a fundraising effort at his school that raised record amounts of money to help further education for the students of Lexington Junior High.

Richard will be missed as an outstanding educator, partner, son, brother, friend and mentor.

He had many beautiful people in his life and Dan and the families wish to express their deepest gratitude for the love and support in such a trying time.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held Sunday, December 9th at the Little Brown Church of Long Beach at 4:00 pm.

Reception to follow.

A separate reception for friends and family in Spokane, will be held Sunday December 16th at 4:00 pm at the home of John and Tammy Barrington.

Richard, the effects you had on your students are infinite and currently unknown; you have shaped the way they will proceed in their careers, the way they will vote, the way they will behave as partners and spouses, the way they treat those around them and the way they will raise their children.
