Obituary: Reed, Charles Allen

Age 89

REED, Charles Allen 89 Years of Life August 15, 1923 - December 4, 2012 Charles “Allen” Reed, a 63 year resident of Deer Lake passed away Tuesday, December 4th after a very brief illness.

He will spend Christmas with his beloved wife Barbara who preceded him in death.

Allen served in the Army during WWII, the European Theatre including Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, as a radio operator attached to General Patton.

Besides his parents he is also preceded in death by three sisters: Jane, Betty and Gert.

He is survived by his youngest or last sister Letha in California.

He is also survived by three daughters: Vallery Reed-Cogo and son John Coga, Mickie Reed-Beck, husband Jack and children Mitchell and Kaylee; Debbie Barbee and sons Peter (wife Louise) and Curtis Swanson.

He has four great-grandchildren: Eric, Aaron, Barbara and Owen.

Allen is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and precious friends.

Allen and Barb owned and operated Haney’s Resort on Deer Lake from 1949 until 1978.

After selling the resort they continued to live at Deer Lake.

Allen was the first Fire Chief of the Deer Lake Fire Station, a position he held for many years.

They were also founding members of the Deer Lake Property Owners Association.

Allen retired from Long Lake Lumber in 1988 and they enjoyed traveling especially to Arizona until Barb passed away in 1999.

Allen will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He played cribbage every weekend with Buck and Marsha Haney and breakfasted every Wednesday with Ken and Susan Brinkman.

Allen was always available to lend a helping hand to his lake neighbors whether it be snow plowing in the winter or launching boats in the summer.

Allen’s family would especially like to thank Dr’s.

Also, nurses Susan in the Cath Lab; Brian and Shana in ICU BN; Patty and Lauren on 7N.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 17th at 1pm at St. Mary Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park immediately followed by interment at Holy Redeemer Cemetery next to the church.

A reception at the Deer Park Eagles, 12 West South Avenue in Deer Park will follow the services.
