Rock hall of fame announces inductees
Randy Newman’s glad he didn’t have to do anything drastic to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The members of Rush are choosing to let bygones be bygones. And Quincy Jones, well, he’s still mad.
All were among inductees announced Tuesday. They will be inducted into the hall of fame April 18 in Los Angeles. For most of this year’s inductees, inclusion was a long time coming.
“I’m very happy,” the 69-year-old Newman said. “I thought I’d have to die first, but I’m glad I’m around to see it.”
Newman is joined in the 2013 class by the eclectic group of rockers Rush and Heart, rap group Public Enemy, “Queen of Disco” Donna Summer and bluesman Albert King. Jones and his friend Lou Adler will enter the hall for their contributions to rock beyond performance.
In many ways, the 2013 class balances the scales, though not nearly soon enough for some new members. “Well, it’s about time, man,” Jones said.
Summer, who passed away at age 63 in May, gains entry after six years as a nominee.
Rush gained entry following its first appearance on the ballot. But the Canadian trio became eligible in 1998 and was repeatedly left off the list. Heart, the Seattle band featuring sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, also waited a decade to make it on the ballot, gaining entry during its second appearance.
Lohan may face jail time for crash
Los Angeles prosecutors on Tuesday asked a judge to revoke Lindsay Lohan’s probation and schedule a hearing that could lead to the actress’s return to jail. The filing came one day before Lohan is scheduled to be arraigned today on three misdemeanor charges filed last month related to a June car crash.
Lohan will not need to be present for today’s arraignment on charges she lied to Santa Monica police, was driving recklessly and obstructed an officer from performing duties related to the crash investigation. She remains on probation for a 2011 necklace theft case and could be sentenced to 245 days in jail if a judge determines her conduct was a probation violation.
