Four GSL wrestling teams 4-0
Four teams have separated themselves from the pack in Greater Spokane League wrestling.
University, Central Valley, Mt. Spokane and Mead all improved to 4-0 on Thursday with easy dual wins on the road.
The GSL is off until Jan. 3, when the highlight match will be Mt. Spokane at U-Hi.
U-Hi won eight consecutive matches, four by pin, to roll to a 66-9 win at Lewis and Clark (0-4). LC’s Dakota Numbers (195) avenged an earlier loss to Tyler Burns with an 8-2 decision.
Early pins by Carson Graham (106), Bryson Beard (113) and Kyle Neil (120) launched Central Valley toward a 58-14 win at Ferris (1-3).
Nick Renner (182) overcame a 6-2 third-period deficit to pin Matt Szymanski as Mt. Spokane powered to a 60-16 win at Gonzaga Prep (0-4).
Mead recorded six pins, including four in the first period, during a 56-17 win at North Central (1-3.)
In the night’s most competitive meet, host Shadle Park (1-3) closed with pins by Grover Escobar (126), Connor Kerr (132) and Terrence McKinney (138) for a 48-27 win over Rogers (1-3). Shadle led 27-3 after five consecutive pins. Shadle heavyweight Alex Van Vlymen defeated Deer Park Invitational champion Ken Keller 9-4 with a five-point move in the final 34 seconds.
Greater Spokane League: Cadie Pratt won three events and the all-around to guide Mead to the team title during a five-way meet at the Mead/Mt. Spokane Gymnastics Center. Pratt won the uneven bars (8.9 points), balance beam (9.45) and vault (9.05) to finish at 36.9 in the all-around. Mead (166.2) held off University (157.35) and Central Valley (155.8). CV’s Issabella Erdem won the floor exercise with a 9.65.
Coeur d’Alene 57, Timberlake 52: Tony Nacarrato and Jared Moore combined for 23 points and the visiting Vikings (3-0) held off the Tigers (3-1) at Spirit Lake.
CdA led by nine points in the fourth quarter before Timberlake rallied. The Vikings escaped when Keegan Scott’s final 3-point attempt missed.
CdA won the rebounding edge 35-20.
Johnny Hayden scored a game-high 15 points for Timberlake and Trevor Masterson added 10.
Lakeland 52, Colville 38: Tyrel Derrick scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half and Alex Opland added 10 points and six steals to lead the host Hawks (3-2) past the Indians (3-3) in Rathrum.
Lakeland’s Scott Simpson had seven rebounds.
Post Falls JV 52, Kellogg 46: Max McCollogh hit four 3-pointers and scored 25 points to guide the Trojans past the visiting Wildcats (4-2).
Garret Wendt led Kellogg with 13 points.
Stillwater Christian 61, Clark Fork 42: Josh Bray scored 31 points to power the Cougars (4-1) past the Wampus Cats (2-6).
Tristin Bristol added 11 points and 13 rebounds for CF, while Joey Hazinsky had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Colville 51, Lakeland 46: Sadie Learn and Taryn Main combined for 31 points and the visiting Indians (2-3) made five 3-pointers in the second half to pull away from the Hawks (1-9) at Rathdrum.
Colville also hit 10 of 12 from the line in the second half.
Jordan Ward had 16 points and seven steals to lead the Hawks. Josie Coder added six steals and four assists.
Post Falls freshmen 51, Lakeside (Idaho) 43: The visiting Trojans used a 16-8 second quarter to pull away from the Knights (6-2) at Plummer.
Francine Hendrickx led Lakeside with 11 points and eight steals. Kim Duncan-Hall added seven steals and Christina Nilson had three blocked shots.
Bonners Ferry 51, Timberlake 26: Aubree Wasmer scored 14 points and Jasmine Hill added 13 to lead the Badgers (6-0) past the visiting Tigers (1-5) in a league opener.
Wasmer added 10 rebounds and three steals. Hill, who shot 6 of 8 from the floor, had four assists and three steals.
Central Idaho League
St. Maries 64, Orofino 6: Lakin Anxo scored 19 points to guide the host Lumberjacks (2-4, 1-2) past the Maniacs (0-9, 0-2).
