NIC men, women win

RANGELY, Colo. – Keon Lewis led seven North Idaho players in double figures with 16 points Thursday night as the Cardinals ran past Colorado Northwestern 95-71 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference men’s basketball opener.

Jalil Abdul-Bassit added 15 points for NIC (13-1), hitting 7 of 7 from the free-throw line to guide the team’s 21-for-25 night. NIC’s Chris Sarbaugh shot 5 for 6 from the floor to score 12 points and tied teammate James Webb III with a game-high seven rebounds.

The Cardinals are ranked 13th in the NJCAA poll. The Spartans dropped to 7-9.

Women

NIC 49, CNCC 38: Angela Woods scored a game-high 14 points, shooting 6 of 8 from the field, as the NJCAA top-ranked Cardinals (12-0) defeated the Spartans (11-5) in a SWAC opener.

Hannah Love (West Valley) shot 3 of 5 from the field and 3 of 4 from the line for NIC, which shot 52 percent from the field in the first half to take a 26-17 lead. Danika Johnson added a game-high six rebounds to guide NIC’s 50-40 edge.
