Indians hand Bulldogs first defeat

 
Grizzlies top Eagles

 Jolie Frederick made a lay-in with less than a minute left and Newport held on to complete the comeback and beat Lakeside 35-33 in a Northeast A League opener at Newport.

 Frederick finished with a team-high 11 points for the Grizzlies (3-2, 1-0), who outscored the Eagles 12-4 in the final quarter to erase a six-point deficit.

 Jenna Widman scored seven points for Lakeside (3-2, 0-1).

Charlene Gray scored 16 points as Reardan got out to a hot start and handed Colfax its first loss of the season, beating the Bulldogs 58-47 in a Northeast 2B League girls basketball game Friday night in Colfax.

Kelsey Moos saw double-teams all night, but finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Indians (5-1, 3-0). Katy Burge added 10 for Reardan, which led 35-23 at halftime.

Colfax (6-1, 3-1) was led by Taylor Larsen and Amelie Bruya, who scored 14 points apiece.

Northwest Christian 56, Springdale 36: The Crusaders (6-0, 3-0) opened the game on an 18-0 run and cruised past the host Chargers (3-3, 1-2). Courtney Gray scored 14 of her game-high 15 points in the first half for Northwest Christian. Taylor Smith tallied a team-high 10 points for Springdale.

St. George’s 39, Davenport 31: Alex Wert had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Brenna Russell added 11 points and nine boards as the Dragons (3-4, 2-1) pulled away in the fourth quarter and beat the visiting Gorillas (1-6, 0-3). Natalee Hayes scored 13 points for Davenport.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 47, Liberty 42: Jenna Bennett scored 16 points and Dalyn Killian added nine points and eight rebounds as the Broncos (1-3, 1-2) held off a late Lancers rally and beat visiting Liberty (1-5, 0-3). Maggie Nelson scored 17 points and Aly Tee added 11 for the Lancers. Nelson and Tee scored 15 of Liberty’s 16 fourth-quarter points.

Northeast A

Chewelah 60, Kettle Falls 46: Brittney Wuesthoff scored 21 points and Kara Frederick and Katelyn Garner added 10 apiece as the Cougars (3-1, 1-0) defeated the host Bulldogs (3-3, 0-1). Jenna Stanard tallied a team-high 13 points for Kettle Falls.

Riverside 49, Medical Lake 25: Courtney Davis had 24 points, 10 rebounds and six steals as the Rams (5-1, 1-0) gained an early advantage and coasted past the visiting Cardinals (3-3, 0-1). Marisa Pace added eight points and four assists for Riverside, which outscored Medical Lake 17-8 in the first quarter and led 28-11 at the half.

Northeast 1B North

Columbia 51, Northport 22: Elizabeth Larrew exploded for 35 points and the Lions (2-2, 1-1) dumped the host Mustangs (2-5, 0-4). Kassie Guglielmino and Kathy Higgins scored eight points apiece for Northport.

Cusick 50, Republic 46: Caitlyn Nenema scored 15 points and the Panthers (5-0, 4-0) stormed back to beat the host Tigers (5-1, 2-1). Cusick trailed by 10 points after three quarters, but outscored Republic 20-6 in the fourth. Kacie Lane tallied a team-high 19 points for the Tigers.

Selkirk 31, Curlew 29: Katie Couch scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter and the Rangers (4-2, 2-2) rallied to beat the visiting Cougars (2-5, 0-2). Ellie McCullough, Lindsey Gibson and Haleigh Gibson all had nine points for Curlew.

Southeast 1B

St. John-Endicott 57, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 16: Gretchen Van Lith scored 13 points and the Eagles (3-1, 3-0) dominated from the get-go in a rout over the host Tigercats (0-4, 0-3). St. John-Endicott outscored LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 19-4 in the first quarter and led 28-6 at halftime.

Rosalia 34, Garfield-Palouse 20: Mackenzie Reddish scored 17 points and the Spartans (4-0, 2-0) topped the visiting Vikings (0-6, 0-2). Chandler Pfaff tallied a team-high eight points for Garfield-Palouse.

Nonleague

West Valley 41, Sandpoint 27: Aaliyah Ashley-Meek scored 10 points and Erin Higbie added eight as the Eagles (3-2) built a comfortable first-half lead and beat the host Bulldogs (6-5). Madison Schoening tallied a team-high nine points for Sandpoint.

Freeman 68, Deer Park 10: Alisha Sorensen led four players in double figures with 15 points and also had seven steals as the Scotties (5-0) overpowered the visiting Stags (0-7). Sierra McGarity had 14 points and Molly McIntyre and Haley Burke added 12 apiece for Freeman, which held a 31-15 rebounding advantage.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 58, Kittitas 45: Karlee Martin had 22 points and eight steals and Allison Fox added 19 points as the Warriors (4-2) topped the visiting Coyotes.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 53, Odessa-Harrington 25: The Nighthawks (4-0) opened the game on a 16-0 run and raced past the host Titans (2-3). Courtenay Perry scored 11 points and Kimberly Groom added nine for Tekoa-Oakesdale. Jordyn Tanke tallied a team-high seven points for Odessa-Harrington.
