Obituary: Hopkins, Dela H. “Dee”

Age 73

HOPKINS, Dela H. “Dee” (Age 73) Of Spokane, WA, entered into rest on December 14, 2012.

Dee was born in Garber Oklahoma on November 26, 1939 to Deland O. Taylor and Ruth (Cramer) Taylor.

She was the oldest of three children.

Dee and her family moved to Washington State in 1947 and settled in Spokane in 1948.

Dee attended Irving grade school and Lewis and Clark High School.

After a prolonged absence from school, during which she raised her four children, Dee attended Spokane Falls Community College to study Social Sciences.

Upon graduating with an Associates degree, she then attended Eastern Washington University where she obtained her Bachelors degree in social sciences, graduating with Honors.

Dee began her career in Social Services at Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, where she worked as a social worker until she retired in early 2001.

After retiring, her passion became her grandchildren.

“Grandma Dee”, or “G-ma” to some, liked spending quality time with her grandchildren throughout every holiday and birthday.

She loved decorating, baking, and entertaining.

She was creative and fun and all of the grandchildren loved spending time with her.

Dee was preceded in death by her father, one son, and her brother.

She is survived by her loving devoted mother Ruth Taylor; a sister Marlene Willis; and three of her children, Taylor Royse, Darla Stephens and Stanley LaTrail, all of Spokane.

She also left behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild along with nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, December 20, between 2:00pm and 8:00pm, A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 21 at 12:00pm at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 W. Wellesley, Spokane WA.

Interment will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

A reception will follow at the Hearing Loss Center, 1206 N. Howard, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
