Whitworth tops Redlands

Dustin McConnell totaled 19 points and seven rebounds Wednesday and 11th-ranked Whitworth used a 16-0 second-half run to stop Redlands 70-57 in nonconference men’s basketball at Orange, Calif.

McConnell shot 7 of 13 from the floor and 5 of 8 on 3-pointers as the Pirates (8-1) won their eighth consecutive game. The rest of the Pirates shot 1 for 16 from long range.

George Valle added 11 points for Whitworth, including five during the second-half run that turned a 55-50 deficit into a 66-55 lead. Valle’s 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 13 seconds left gave Whitworth the lead for good at 57-55.

Tristan Kirk had a game-high eight rebounds for Redlands (7-3).

Cheney 65, Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 62 (OT): Najib Rehman scored 20 points and Eric Igbinoba added 15 points and 10 rebounds as the visiting Blackhawks (3-3) held off the Eagles (2-5) in a game featuring 12 ties and nine lead changes. Lakeside’s Connor Moffatt hit a 10-foot jumper after time expired in regulation. Moffatt and Coleton Collins combined for 32 points.

Pullman 47, Lewiston 40: Race Martin and AJ Miles combined for 26 points and eight steals while leading the Greyhounds (6-1) past the host Bengals (2-6).

Priest River 53, Riverside 52: Cam Riley scored 26 points and Dalton Sommer added 16 as the visiting Spartans (4-3) held off the Rams (2-6). Priest River missed three free throws in the final 30 seconds but blocked a Riverside shot at the buzzer.

Northport 52, Kettle Falls 51: Jeremiah Johnson scored 21 points and Dustin Burke hit two free throws in the final minute and the visiting Mustangs (6-3) held on when the Bulldogs (4-5) missed two field-goal attempts in the last 15 seconds.

St. Maries 41, Kellogg 39: Austin Cordell scored nine of his 17 points in the third quarter and the host Lumberjacks (3-2) held back the Wildcats (5-3). Kellogg’s George Wendt scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 54, Cheney 50: Ashley Cook-Cox finished with 16 points and six rebounds and the host Eagles (5-2) edged the Blackhawks (1-3). Cheney pulled within two points with 30 seconds left, but the Eagles sealed the win with two free throws. Chae Brown had 20 points and six steals for Cheney.

Lewiston 54, Pullman 31: Karlee and Lynzee Wilson and Caitlin Teichmer combined for eight 3-pointers and 36 points as the host Bengals (9-2) stopped the Greyhounds (3-3).

Priest River 40, Riverside 39: Jill Weimer scored 16 points as the Spartans (6-4) edged the host Rams (6-2). Riverside scored on a putback with 7 seconds left but couldn’t get the ball back. The Rams’ Marisa Pace had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Kettle Falls 60, Northport 30: The host Bulldogs (4-5) used 14 players and doubled up the Mustangs (2-7) without scorer in double figures.

East Valley 40, Deer Park 26: Gabe Meyer (132 pounds) defeated state placer Michael Leonard 7-2 as the visiting Knights (1-1) stopped the Stags (1-1). EV’s Brenten Goodwater (113) scored a late near fall to defeat Aaron Klauder 5-2.

Clarkston 50, West Valley 22: Braydon Pearson (145) and Austion Green (152) had match-opening wins and Dakota Cornish (160) followed with a pin as the Bantams (2-0) beat the host Eagles (0-2).

Colville 66, Cheney 18: The visiting Indians (2-0) won the final 11 matches by pin or forfeit to turn back the Blackhawks (0-1).
