Need armed school staff

The tragic school shooting in Connecticut was a testament to the totally inadequate mental health care system in the U.S. However, along with making changes to the health care system, we must have armed security at our schools. One way to do this without needing to hire special security guards, further burdening our school system budgets, would be to set up a federal program like the Federal Flight Deck Officer program that allows commercial airline pilots to carry firearms.

Volunteer teachers and other school officials who are willing to submit to a background check, psychological testing and an extensive training period at a federal facility would then be allowed carry a weapon to protect our children at schools. Multiple armed and trained individuals at every school would likely mitigate these horrific shootings in the future.
