Obituary: Eager, Mary Martha “Muffy”

EAGER, Mary Martha “Muffy” Muffy Eager passed away peacefully in her Wishkah Valley home with her family at her side on December 12, 2012.

Muffy was born in Spokane, WA to her parents Bill and Mary Bea Sleeth on August 5, 1953.

She went to Holy Names Academy High School and then earned her teaching degree at Washington State University.

She started her elementary school teaching in Pomeroy, WA and then taught in Australia for two years.

She began teaching at Wishkah Valley School in 1978 and continued there until her retirement in 2012.

She met her husband and fellow teacher Bob Eager while teaching in Wishkah.

They married July 5, 1980 and started their life together on the Eager Farm.

She is survived by her husband, Bob, of the family home in Wishkah Valley; and two daughters and their spouses; Nicole and Jerome Stevens and Monica and Jesse Messerchmidt.

Her son, Brian, preceded her in death and she is happy to meet him again in Heaven.

She was also the proud grandmother of her first granddaughter, Bailey Messerschmidt.

Other loving family members include her parents; sister, Molly (Lee) Windham; brothers, Bill (Mary Ann) and Paul (Laurin) Sleeth; and many nieces and nephews.

Muffy was a devoted mother and enjoyed spending time with her kids and family.

The nurturing side of her personality shined in her role as teacher.

She took pride in helping young children learn.

She was also a devout Catholic and appreciated spending time in prayer at St. Mary’s Church in Aberdeen.

On sunny days you could often find he working in her garden saying her catch phrase, “Come on sunshine!”
