Will administer for food

Thanks to the Spokane County commissioners, poor Marshall Farnell won’t have to subsist on a miserly stipend of $127,300 per year. Just think, no more living at the Union Gospel Mission or begging on street corners (“Will administer county for food; God Bless”). Tom Joad only thought times were tough.

Imagine trying to chisel out a hardscrabble existence on $127,300. It is only fair, really, to raise this poor devil’s pay 26 percent. Keeping up with the Joneses ain’t cheap, but it can be done by holding sheriff’s deputies pay increases to a minimum and cutting into the Sheriff’s Department’s budget.

Sheriff Knezovich should count his blessings and remember, one of the most dangerous jobs in the realm is county chief executive officer.
