Winter weather returning tonight
The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for 2 to 4 inches of snow across the Inland Northwest starting tonight.
However, the snow level is expected to hover around 2,300 feet in elevation, meaning the lower parts of Spokane and Spokane Valley may miss out on the snow. However, the afternoon forecaster said it appears Spokane will see all snow tonight.
The forecast shows that snow should be arriving in the region by 7 p.m., but the temperature in Spokane may still be 34 degrees then. Overnight, the low should get to 29 degrees.
The forecaster this afternoon said that sunshine earlier in the day has pushed temperatures to near 40. As a result, minimal cooling is likely after dark, bringing wet snow or snow and rain to the lower elevations.
Spokane International Airport at 2,370 feet could see 4 inches of snow by morning while the heart of the urban area gets only 1.5 inches.
Another shot of 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible on Tuesday night before the region sees a break in storm systems later this week.
Cooler temperatures are expected this week with highs near 30 and lows in the upper teens to middle 20s.
