SUV broadsides bus

From Staff Reports

Passengers found another way home Tuesday evening after a vehicle hit their bus in the intersection of Third Avenue and Madison Street.

The southbound driver of the SUV ran a stop sign around 4:30 p.m., hitting the driver side of the Spokane Transit Authority bus, according to Spokane police officers at the scene. The driver was cited for the incident.

Only six passengers were on board the Route 43 bus during the accident. No one was seriously injured, but passengers said a child hurt his lip when he hit the seat on impact.

The crash broke the windshield, side mirror and the fiberglass siding of the bus. STA mechanics on the scene speculated the bus could be out of commission for at least a month.
