Obituary: Koetting, Raymond E. “Ray”

KOETTING, Raymond E. “Ray” (Age 83) After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Ray passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 18, 2012. Ray was born November 17, 1929 in Butte, Montana, to the late Ernest and Hadel Koetting. He attended Butte schools and graduated from Butte High School, Butte, Montana in 1948. Ray joined the Navy and became a Seabee during the Korean War from 1950 - 1954. After leaving the Navy, he worked as a Journeyman Carpenter in Butte. Ray married Arlene McKechnie also from Butte, on July 26, 1958. They moved to Spokane, Washington that same year and pursued his carpentry skills. He became a business partner in Garland Harper, Inc. Years later, he worked from his home office, creating a carpet showroom supplying services to local home builders. Eventually he worked for United Floor Covering with his partner Jack Spring installing hardwood floors until he retired at the age of 80. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, snow skiing with the “camper village group” at 49 Degrees North! Most of all, Ray enjoyed gatherings with family and friends. Ray is survived by his wife Arlene (of 54 years); his two daughters, Lisa M. Eberth (James) of Edmonds, Washington, Karen L. Meier (John Paul) of Okinawa, Japan; grandchildren, Tessa Eberth, J.R. Meier (Nicole), Mara Eberth, Tara Meier Jones (Dean) and Kaeli Eberth; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Jones, Chance Jones and John W. Meier; brother Erwin (Erv) Koetting, Finley Point, (Polson) Montana, brother-in-law Bill McKechnie (Jeanne) Las Vegas, NV; numerous nieces and nephews, and many cousins in Germany. The family would like to thank Dr. John Floyd, Dr. Ryan Holbrook, Dr. Saritha Thumma, the nurses at CancerCare NW and the staff of FHC/Hospice.
