Medical examiner identifies Spokane shooting victim
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman shot at a Spokane party Wednesday as 20-year-old Ciara R. Hardin.
Spokane police arrested a 20-year-old man this afternoon after he allegedly shot Hardin in the head on accident Wednesday. Chad W. Pratt faces second-degree manslaughter. He was booked into Spokane County Jail.
Hardin was transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died of her injuries, according to police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.
Police responded to the shooting at a party about 11:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of E. Newark Avenue Wednesday. Patrol officers arrived within two minutes of the 911 call and immediately began rendering first aid.
Major crimes detectives investigated and determined Pratt, who had been drinking, was in the kitchen showing another friend his loaded handgun when he fired the gun and shot Hardin. Investigators determined Pratt was negligent in his handling of the firearm, resulting in the death of his friend.
The official cause of death is a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death is pending further investigation.
