In brief: Model railroaders host open house
SPOKANE VALLEY – The Evergreen Model Railroaders will host an open house today from 1 to 5 p.m.
The club’s members have spent years creating a model with more than 1,000 feet of HO scale railroad with bridges, mountains, towns and many other features. Trains will be running on three lines during the afternoon and there are steam engine sounds and train horns.
Children are welcome. The club’s facility is at 18213 E. Appleway Ave.

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city of Spokane Valley will begin accepting reservations for parks, picnic shelters and CenterPlace in 2013 at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
People interested in making a reservation must fill out a facility usage form available online at www.spokanevalley.org, at CenterPlace (2426 N. Discovery Place) or at city hall (11707 E. Sprague). Call the Parks Department at (509) 688-0300 for more information.
Holiday will affect council meetings
SPOKANE COUNTY – Several Spokane Valley area city councils are changing or canceling upcoming meetings. The city of Spokane Valley council will not meet on Tuesday. The cities of Liberty Lake and Fairfield have moved their council meetings from Tuesday to 7 p.m. Jan. 8.
