Brandon Gfeller made five 3-pointers and finished with 28 points and seven rebounds as the defending State 2B champion Colfax Bulldogs upset 4A school and previously unbeaten Walla Walla 42-36 in the Lewiston tournament title game Saturday at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.
Gfeller made 11 of 15 free throws as did the team in the fourth quarter to help keep the Blue Devils (9-1) at bay.
Brady Ellis and Skylar Simonson, who joined Gfeller on the all-tournament team, each added six points.
Walla Walla outscored Colfax 11-4 in the third quarter to cut into the Bulldogs nine-point halftime lead, but Colfax (8-3) did just enough in the fourth to hold off the Blue Devils.
Clarkston 53, Lewiston 52: Trevor Sperry converted three-point play in the final seconds to give the Bantams (5-2) a win over the Bengals (2-9) in the consolation game of the Lewiston tournament. Sperry received the inbounds pass with 6 seconds left, posted up his defender, and hit the shot while being fouled. He made the free throw to give Clarkston the win. Sperry finished with 19 points and Kage Sobotta added 11 for the Bantams.
Lake City tournament
Garfield 55, Lake City 47: The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half and beat the Timberwolves (8-3) in Coeur d’Alene for the tourney title. Riley Moreen had 15 points and seven rebounds and Kyle Guice added 12 points and 13 boards for LC, which was outscored 31-20 after halftime.
Lakeland 65, South Kitsap 61 (OT): Matt Horne hit four second-half 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to power the Hawks (6-4) past the Wolves in the consolation title game. Lakeland’s Tyler Stanford nailed a 15-foot jumper with 8 seconds left to send the game into overtime. The Hawks made 5 of 6 free throws in overtime to fend off South Kitsap.
Coeur d’Alene tournament
Glacier Peak 63, Coeur d’Alene 51: The Grizzlies broke open a close game with 20-9 third-quarter run and beat the Vikings (7-2) in Coeur d’Alene for the tournament title. Colby Daniels had 13 points and Justin Carpenter added 12 for Coeur d’Alene.
Post Falls 67, Stanwood 55: Keaton Corr scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second quarter and the Trojans (5-4) pulled away to beat the Spartans in the consolation title game. Dalton Thompson added 15 points and Corey Koski chipped in 13 for Post Falls.
Northwest Christian 73, Seattle Christian 50: Jonathan Morris scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter and the Crusaders (8-3) built a comfortable first-half lead and cruised past the Warriors at the Yakima SunDome. Nick Kiourkas had 11 points and Cody Kilpatrick added 10 for Northwest Christian.
Naches Valley 57, Lakeside (WA) 51: Cameron Walker made 9 of 14 shots and buried all six of his free throws to finish with 26 points and lead the Rangers past the Eagles (2-8).
Coleton Collins had 18 points and Conner Moffatt added 14 for Lakeside.
Central Valley 68, Richland 44: Austin Rekhow had 22 points and nine rebounds and Adam Chamberlain added 20 points and six boards as the Bears (8-0) dumped the visiting Bombers.
Beau Byus added 13 points for Central Valley, which held a 33-24 advantage in rebounds.
The Bears took control in the second quarter, outscoring Richland 19-8 to take a 15-point lead into halftime.
Gonzaga Prep 60, Bellarmine Prep 40: Sam Dowd made 6 of 9 shots from the floor on the night and finished with 16 points to guide the Bullpups (6-2) past the visiting Lions.
Brendan McClary and Ekow Nottinson scored 11 points apiece to bolster Gonzaga Prep.
Liberty 87, St. John-Endicott 49: Match Burnham scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds – including eight offensive boards – to lead the Lancers (6-4) to a rout of the visiting Eagles (1-8).
Burnham also handed out five assists for Liberty, which held a 53-31 rebounding advantage.
Ryan Thayer had 18 points and Zack Kunkel made all nine of his free-throw attempts and finished with 17 points for the Lancers.
