Obituary: Stare, Sister Antonia, Op

STARE, OP Sister Antonia Our Sister Antonia Stare, OP, went home to her Lord on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2012, in Spokane.

She was born May 10, 1915 to Jacob and Anna (Kuralt) Stare of Jump Off Joe, Washington.

Her home parish was Sacred Heart in Wilbur.

She became a member of the Dominican Sisters in 1934 and celebrated her 75th Anniversary as a Sinsinawa Dominican Sister in June, 2011.

Sr. Antonia served as nursing supervisor at St. Martin Hospital, Tonasket, 1940-1947.

She then taught: at Immaculate Conception, Oroville, 1947-1954; Marycliff High, Spokane, 1954-1961; in a residential school for developmentally delayed children in Spokane, 1961-1962; at Assumption School, Spokane, 1962-1963; and Antonian School, Cheney, 1963-1977.

In 1977-78 Sister Antonia ministered as councilor and houseparent at Spokane Nazareth House, before serving as director of Starry Home, Spokane, from 1978-1994.

She then began ministry as a parish visitor for St. Aloysius Parish, Spokane, until 2006.

Sister Antonia then lived in community at St. Joseph Care Center, Spokane, until her death.

A Vigil Service will be held Tuesday, January 1, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Avenue.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 2, at 10:00 a.m. at St.Aloysius Catholic Church.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sinsinawa Dominicans Sisters, 585 County Road “Z”, Sinsinawa WI 53824-9700.
