Whitworth defeats Lewis-Clark State

Whitworth’s women’s basketball team completed its nonconference schedule Sunday with a 68-53 win over Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston.

Lauren Picha scored 13 points to pace the Pirates (9-2), while Emily Guthrie and KC McConnell each had 12 points. Guthrie also had a game-high 10 rebounds, and Emily Travis had a career-high 10 assists.

After falling behind 45-21 at the half, the Warriors (3-13) switched to a trapping defense in the second half. LCSC went on a 21-13 run to open the half but got no closer than 14 points.

Whitworth moves back into Northwest Conference play Friday against Pacific in Forest Grove, Ore.

NIC 65, Centralia 43: Angela Woods scored a game-high 20 points to lead North Idaho College to a 65-43 victory over Centralia College in the championship game of the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic in Longview, Wash.

Hannah Love added 11 points for the Cardinals (17-0), who resume Scenic West Athletic Conference play Thursday at Salt Lake.

CCS 66, Skagit Valley 59: Rylie Holsinger scored 19 points and had a game-high eight rebounds as Community Colleges of Spokane beat Skagit Valley College 66-59 for third place at the Skagit Valley College tournament in Mount Vernon, Wash.

Amelia Cook added 14 points and Jorden Brons and Morgan Freeman had 11 points each for the Sasquatch (7-5), who host NWAACC foe Big Bend CC on Saturday.
