In brief: County seeks panel members

SPOKANE COUNTY – Spokane County commissioners are looking for volunteers to fill board and committee positions.

In District 1 in north Spokane County and District 2 in south Spokane County, there are openings on the Citizens Emergency Communications System and Facilities Advisory Committee and the Spokane County Shooting Advisory Committee.

Also, the county has openings on the Developmental Disabilities Board, Emergency Services Communications Policy Board, Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee and the Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

Essays sought for Mother’s Day event

SPOKANE COUNTY – Organizers of the event “Listen To Your Mother Spokane” are looking for writers to read original essays on any aspect of motherhood. 

Auditions are scheduled for Feb. 25. The event will be May 13 at the Bing Crosby Theater in downtown Spokane.

“People of all ages, types and backgrounds and writers of all experience-levels are invited to audition,” said organizer Elise Raimi. “We encourage diverse perspectives on the subject of mothers and mothering. No previous stage experience is necessary.”

‘Think and Drink’ on music tonight

LOGAN – Humanities Washington will hold its “Think and Drink” series at 7 tonight at Northern Lights Brewing Co., 1003 E. Trent Ave.

The program, “Listen Up! What is Modern Music?” will feature the award-winning composer and instructor Donivan Johnson of Metaline Falls, Wash.

He will share musical examples and teaching skills that will help those who are interested to critique modern music from Igor Stravinsky to John Cage.

The event is free and open to the public.
