Post Falls mobile home residents face eviction

Associated Press

POST FALLS — Dozens of inhabitants of a mobile home park in Post Falls are facing eviction because the new owners have deemed the property and its infrastructure unsuitable.

The decision has left El Rancho Mobile Home Park residents frustrated and nervous.

Last week, residents were notified the 70-lot mobile home complex was shutting down and they had until July 31 to move off the property.

Longtime resident Denise Brigham told the Coeur d’Alene Press she is heartbroken and concerned about the impact on neighbors, many of which are unemployed and unable to move the homes.

The property was acquired last year by an investment group called FF, LLC.

Coeur d’Alene attorney Randall Probasco represents FF, LLC., and says the closure is due to deteriorating infrastructure and concerns about public health issues.

Bummer, the homeless ranks just added a few more poor souls.

Well, let’s see… This investment company just bought the trailer park, and only then decided that they were concerned but the “deteriorating infrastructure”. Not likely. They bought it fully intending to evict the tenants, bulldoze it, and sell it or develop it for a more profitable use.

The tenants surely also know that their mobile homes are not really mobile. It’s not that they can’t put wheels under them. It’s that Kootenai county doesn’t allow any mobile home older than a certain (fairly small) number of years to be installed in a new location. Sometimes they can sell them very cheap or give them away to someone willing to move it to a poorer county that’s not so picky. It’s clear the Kootenai county policy is to eliminate mobile homes as much as they can.

It’s not like that is against the law.
