Died Louisiana Tech running back Tyrone Duplessis died Thursday morning after medics responded to an emergency call at his off-campus apartment. Hazel Woods, the chief investigator for the Lincoln Parish coroner’s office, said the cause of death was not yet known and an autopsy is pending. Ruston, La., police Lt. Tim Parker said authorities are not investigating at this time and are awaiting the coroner’s report. A roommate of Duplessis made the emergency call after the running back woke up with chest pain, Louisiana Tech spokesman Patrick Walsh said.

Charged A woman has been charged with stalking and shaking down New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. Prosecutors say Louise Neathway extorted $6,000 from Cashman, tried to squeeze $15,000 more and engaged in “a long-term effort to control and manipulate” him. The case represents “a long-term effort to control and manipulate the victim,” Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eric Iverson told a judge as Neathway, 36, was arraigned on grand larceny, stalking and harassment charges. Her lawyers said Cashman had “an inappropriate relationship” with Neathway.

Pleaded A lawyer entered a no contest plea for Kyle Lowry in a bid for dismissal of a misdemeanor battery case alleging the Houston Rockets guard threw a basketball at a female referee and threatened her during a game at a Las Vegas gym last September. Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman agreed to dismiss the case July 19 if Lowry completes 100 hours of community service, completes an impulse control counseling program and stays out of trouble for six months.

Agreed Two people familiar with the talks say the Cleveland Indians agreed to terms on a one-year contract for $3 million with free-agent first baseman Casey Kotchman.

• Pitcher Edwin Jackson agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals, pending a physical. The deal is worth in the range of $9 million to $12 million.

Hired Former Ohio State Buckeyes football coach, Jim Tressel, who resigned in disgrace last May amid a cash-for- tattoos scandal at the football powerhouse, was hired by Akron as vice president of strategic engagement, a position newly created for him.

• The Green Bay Packers promoted quarterbacks coach Tom Clements to offensive coordinator. • The Indianapolis Colts hired Greg Manusky as defensive coordinator. Roy Anderson has been hired as the secondary coach. Marwan Maalouf will coach special teams.
