Torrid Eagles topple Sacramento State

Brianne Ryan had 26 points and nine rebounds and Chene Cooper added 20 points as Eastern Washington beat Sacramento State 90-84 in a Big Sky Conference game Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.

Cooper hit one of her four 3-pointers with 1 minute, 22 seconds left to give the Eagles (15-9, 9-2) a four-point lead. Ryan sealed the win with four free throws in the final 16 seconds.

The win was the fifth consecutive conference victory and sixth consecutive conference win on the road, which ties the EWU record for most conference road wins in a season.

Alle Moreno scored 21 points and Emily Christensen added 20 for the Hornets (8-16, 3-8).

The Eagles host Weber State on Thursday.

UCLA 73, Washington State 52: Markel Walker recorded a triple-double and the Bruins (12-10, 7-4) took control in the second half and beat the Cougars (10-13, 4-7) in Pac-12 Conference action at the John Wooden Center in Los Angeles.

Walker finished with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for UCLA. Washington State got 13 points apiece from April Cook and Jazmine Perkins.

After falling behind early, the Cougars went on a 15-4 run to pull within a point at halftime. The Bruins put the game away in the second half, outscoring WSU by 20 points.

The Cougars host Oregon State on Thursday.

Pacific Lutheran 87, Whitworth 83 (OT): Mackenzie Baker scored 19 of her career-high 21 points after halftime and hit two key free throws late in overtime to give the visiting Lutes (7-14, 4-8) a win over the Pirates (9-12, 5-7) in a Northwest Conference game.

Pacific Lutheran’s Shelly Kilcup made a lay-in as time expired in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Kayla Johnson scored a career-high 22 points – 16 coming after halftime – for Whitworth

The Pirates play at Linfield on Friday and at Pacific on Saturday.

CC Spokane 50, Wenatchee Valley 44: Amanda Buttrey made four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and six rebounds as the Sasquatch topped the Knights in a NWAACC game in Wenatchee.

Laikyn Brophy added 12 points and six boards for CCS. Wenatchee Valley was led by Kate Patenaude’s 11 points.

The Sasquatch improved to 6-13 overall and 1-6 in conference games. The Knights fell to 7-13, 2-6.

Southern Idaho 72, North Idaho 51: Mechela Barnes scored 20 points and Chakala Carthen added 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Golden Eagles (11-12, 3-5) upset the 10th-ranked Cardinals (17-4, 6-2) in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Korina Baker had 11 points and Katie Buskey and Julia Salmio chipped in 10 points each for North Idaho.
