Fans greet Giants on return to New Jersey

Smiles were the order of the day, as the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants returned home, victorious once again.

The team’s charter plane from Indianapolis touched down around 1:55 p.m. local time Monday at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

Several players saluted the crowd as they departed the aircraft, and some used cameras and video recorders to capture the moment and the scene. Coach Tom Coughlin also had a big smile as he waved to the crowd.

The players then took buses to the team’s headquarters in East Rutherford, N.J., where thousands of fans lined the gates waiting to catch a glimpse of the champions.

But there were two key components missing: the Vince Lombardi Trophy and Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.

The Giants captured the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl championship on Sunday, with a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots.

The team’s parade is today.

Haley joins Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers will hire former Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley to be their offensive coordinator, according to an ESPN report.

The move has not yet been announced.

Haley will replace Bruce Arians, now with the Indianapolis Colts.

Chiefs hire Daboll

The Kansas City Chiefs hired Brian Daboll as the team’s new offensive coordinator, bringing in a familiar face for new head coach Romeo Crennel.

Daboll spent last season in the same job for the Miami Dolphins, and the previous two years serving as Cleveland’s offensive coordinator. He worked with Crennel when both were with the Patriots.

Raiders go with Tarver

The Oakland Raiders didn’t look far to find a defensive coordinator, hiring Stanford’s Jason Tarver to take over the same position for the NFL team.

Tarver will join new coach Dennis Allen’s staff. Tarver helped shape one of the Pac-12’s top defenses last year.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has confirmed that Josh McDaniels will be the team’s offensive coordinator next season. McDaniels was brought in during the playoffs to serve as an “offensive assistant.” … Tickets for the NFL’s annual regular-season game in London will go on sale today after the St. Louis Rams solved an issue regarding their stadium lease. The Rams will host the Patriots on Oct. 28 at Wembley Stadium.
