Ryan shares Sky award

Women’s basketball: Eastern Washington senior Brianne Ryan (pictured) and Montana State’s Katie Bussey have been selected co-Players of the Week in the Big Sky Conference.

It is the third week in a row a player for the streaking Eagles has been given the honor. Senior Chene Cooper won last week and junior Carrie Ojeda received the honor on Jan. 23. It is the third honor of the season for Ryan.

Ryan led the Eagles (15-9, 9-2) with 29 points in an 84-58 win at home against Northern Arizona and followed that with a 26-point effort in a 90-84 victory on the road against Sacramento State.

• Idaho sophomore post Alyssa Charlston is the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week following the Vandals’ road sweep over Hawaii and San Jose State.

Charlston averaged 14.0 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field as Idaho (7-16, 2-5) snapped its eight-game losing streak.

• Gonzaga moved up to No. 19 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll. It is the highest the Bulldogs have been in the AP poll since they closed out the 2009-10 campaign ranked No. 15.

Whits climb to 9th in poll

Men’s basketball: The Whitworth Pirates moved up one spot to ninth this week in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.

  Whitworth (18-3, 11-1) beat Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran last week at home.

The Pirates remain the highest- ranked team with more than two losses.

The Pirates have a three-game lead in the Northwest Conference, and with wins at Linfield and Pacific this weekend can clinch their third straight NWC title and fifth crown in the last six years.
