Obituary: Hansen, Dorothy Elizabeth

Age 88

HANSEN, Dorothy Elizabeth
(Age 88)

Dorothy Hansen was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2012 from the Sunshine Gardens Care Center.

Dorothy was born January 29, 1924 in the family home in Deer Park, Washington where she spent her youth.

While decorating the church Christmas tree at the Spokane First Presbyterian Church, Dorothy caught the eye of Robert (Bob) R. Hansen.

They were married July 17, 1948.

In 1954, Bob and Dorothy moved to Grangeville, Idaho where they became partners and eventually the owners of the Hansen Funeral Home and at the end of her working life, Monty’s Motel.

They raised their three children in Grangeville.

Dorothy was a full time mother for many years, but she also provided the business sense and accounting skills necessary to operate a successful family business.

Dorothy spent her retirement years in Spokane.

During their early retirement years, she and Bob especially enjoyed being volunteer workers on short-term church mission trips, visiting more than a dozen different countries.

Dorothy was a strong woman of faith.

She loved the Lord and the church that helped her to serve and worship Him.

She also loved to garden, maintaining a large vegetable and flower garden in her earlier years and a small flower garden in her retirement.

Dorothy was a gentle, kind and loving woman always caring more for others than she did for herself.

She was always very careful about spending resources on herself so that she would be able to do more for others and especially so she would have more to give to the Lord.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Bob, to whom she was married for 63 years and her children: Bruce(Kay) of Ft. Worth, TX, Dale (Marlene) of Rocky Mountain House, AB., Canada and Ann Wells of Moscow, ID.

Two sisters: Eleanor Bartle and Carol Henry.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Mildred Harris, one sister, Gertrude Verhaghe, and one grandson, Craig Adamson.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:30AM at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.

Memorials contributions may be made to Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene 15515 E. 20th Avenue, Spokane, WA 99037.
