Barone powers Vandals to victory
MOSCOW, Idaho – Kyle Barone had 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as Idaho defeated Louisiana Tech 73-64 Saturday night for its fourth straight men’s basketball victory.
Deremy Geiger and Landon Tatum also had 14 points apiece for the Vandals (15-11, 7-4 Western Athletic), who swept the season series from the Bulldogs for the first time.
Cordarius Johnson scored 21 points for Louisiana Tech (11-14, 3-7), which lost its fourth straight game. Romario Souza added 13 points and Trevor Gaskins had 12. The Bulldogs’ leading scorer, Raheem Appleby, was held scoreless.
The game was tied at 48 midway through the second half when Geiger hit three free throws, Djim Bandoumel scored on a jumper and Connor Hill buried a 3-pointer to put Idaho on top 56-48 with 7:10 remaining. Louisiana Tech never got closer than five points the rest of the way.
The Vandals shot 63 percent from the floor in the second half, and 55 percent for the game.
