Geiger inmate escapes

An inmate arrested in December after posting a video to his Facebook page showing what police believe are stolen items escaped today from the Geiger Corrections Center.

Nathan J. Calvert, 28, was serving time at the corrections center for multiple felony charges when he went missing about 3:30 p.m. today, according to a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office news release. He had been working in the kitchen area when staff realized he was not in his assigned area.

The facility was immediately placed on lock down as staff searched for Calvert, the news release said.

Calvert is 5-foot-8, 135 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a tan jumpsuit, but may have had other clothing on underneath.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who was in the area of the facility around the time he went missing and thinks they may have seen someone matching his description to call 911.

He was in jail on charges of residential burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, vehicle prowling and three counts of second-degree theft. Police say he was prowling at least 30 cars a night throughout Spokane County before he was arrested in December. At the time of his arrest, police say he had a stolen Jeep full of about 100 items of stolen property – which appeared to be the same Jeep and items in the video on his Facebook page.

  Ozzy is releasing these prisoners on Purpose then saying they escaped just to get the stupid Spokane voters to vote yes and give him a New jail ran by one of these private for Profit prison companies.

  Completely false.  Inmates escape from prisons which were specifically designed to house them.  Geiger was not built to hold inmates but the security is continually being evaluated to make it as secure as possible.  The safety of the citizens of Spokane County is paramount and it is absolutely wrong to make accusations like this.

  Ozzy is a right wing republican-tea-bagger tool and he will do anything to get his way with the voters by secretly releasing prisonsers and saying their escapees. just to get his new jail run by one of those private prisons Corpes.

  Wow muse that is a thought that would have never crossed my mind, and it still doesn’t.

  I highly doubt that anyone in law enforcement has anything to do with the escapes from Geiger.
  
  If you have ever visited anyone there you would see how easily someone could escape from there. It is not a prison but more of a housing encampment for non-violent criminals.

  Would YOU climb over all that barbed wire so a sheriff could get what he wants? After all the cuts, and in some cases broken bones, from escaping, they also face another 5 years added to their sentence. What could Ozzy possibly offer them to do this?

  Again, your statement is false.  It’s clear YOU, are using this as a political issue and there’s nothing I can post here to change your opinion.  Sheriff Knezovich would not risk public safety for politics.  From your statements, I would say you don’t know him or know his thoughts about public safety.  If you did, you wouldn’t be making false accusations.

  Even I’ve been around here long enough to know Shademuse is a common blog troll. He/She sides opposite whatever the common opinion is just to cause turmoil. I really pity whatever life Shade leads because it can’t be one of fulfillment with this much crying for attention.

  I can speak as I was an inmate at Geiger for a bit. In which I have seen the Guards planting a marijuana pipe, and did a 11 month stay on a 12 month sentence. In which I lost no good time… I was supposed to do 8 months on a 12 month sentence with good time.

  Julie Driscoll decided to “Change” what the Judge that sentenced me. Lets see here… Credit for time served, and all charges from 2 Case numbers were to run “Concurrent”… meaning I had been in for 3 and so I took the plea bargain for 12 months as I would end up doing another 5 months. So 3 months + another 5 = 8 months. Julie Driscoll said “Sorry, your time for one count didn’t start until you were sentenced… , so that time starts now… ”

  Thats how Geiger held me for 3 months extra of “Illegal Incarceration”

  So tell me that “The powers that be” aren’t trying to get extra money….

  and I couldn’t find a lawyer to help me… What is wrong with Spokane???
