FASSNACHT, Hannelore W.

Adored Mother, Grand-mother and Great-Grandmother, Hannelore Fassnacht died Tuesday, February 7th, in Spokane, Washington.

Born Novem-ber 29, 1924 in Zeulenroda, Germany, Hannelore’s life was one filled with joy and a zest for adventure.

In 1939, she moved to the United States to join her Mother, Elly.

Upon completion of high school and the end of World War II, she moved to Frankfurt, Germany, working as a translator for the United States Government.

There she met her future husband, Hugo.

They married in 1948 in Vienna, Austria.

His career enabled them to live and travel in United States and Europe, living for ten years in Italy and five years in Germany.

They retired to Ashland, Oregon in 1977.

Hannelore and Hugo were blessed with 49 years of loving marriage.

With Hugo’s passing, Hannelore moved to Spokane in 1999, to be near her children.

Hannelore was a vibrant member of the Waterford Community, embracing all the activities afforded to her.

She was an active parishioner of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church as well as an avid supporter of the Spokane Symphony and Women Helping Women Fund.

Hannelore is survived by her four children Eleanor Andersen (Matt), of Spokane, Washington; Katherine Dogali (Michael), of Newport Beach, California; Susan Hunt (Peter) of Calgary, Alberta; and, Henry Fassnacht (Debbie) of Missoula, Montana.

She is also survived by her adored six grandchildren Jed (Bee), Karie, Jeremy (fiancĂŠe Alexandra), Brendan, Max and Ben (Gail); and three great grandchildren Miles, Lauren and Ava Jane.

Hannelore’s greatest joy was planning and travelling with Hugo, her children and grandchildren.

After living a wonderful life her last journey was one filled with grace, dignity and peace under a clear starry moonlit sky.


The family wishes to thank the Waterford staff and Home Care for their devoted companionship.

Service to be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E 24th, Spokane, Washington 99203.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Symphony or the Vivian Winston Scholarship of the Women Helping Women Fund.
