A history of Valentine’s Day through the ages

The origin of St. Valentine, and how many St. Valentines there were, remains a mystery. Whoever he was, Valentine really existed because archaeologists have unearthed a Roman catacomb and an ancient church dedicated to St. Valentine. Feb. 14, originally designated Valentine’s feast day, has over the centuries evolved, becoming a holiday devoted to sweethearts.
