NWC rallies for 22nd win

Davenport gave Northwest Christian all it could handle for three quarters on Monday night in the District 7 2B boys basketball tournament at Mt. Spokane, but the final eight minutes was another story.

Trailing by seven, the Crusaders (22-0) went to a press to create havoc for the Gorillas (15-7) and pulled away for a 56-49 victory to stay unbeaten and advance to Friday’s championship game at Mt. Spokane against Colfax.

The Bulldogs (17-5) earned the date with a 56-46 win over Reardan (13-9) at Mt. Spokane.

In District 7 2B games at Mead, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (12-10) eliminated Libery (8-15) 61-55 and St. George’s (11-11) ousted Kettle Falls (1-20) 66-27.

Northwest Christian 56, Davenport 49: Reuben Clark scored half his team-leading 16 points in the fourth quarter to fuel the Crusaders’ rally and Kwinn Hanson scored five of his 13. Dakota Winward also scored 13 for NWC. Clark had 12 rebounds. Cole Evers scored 25 for Davenport.

Colfax 56, Reardan 46: Kyle Johnson hit six 3-pointers in a 24-point game, and was 4 of 4 on free throws in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs dispatched the Indians. Brandon Kohler hit 7 of 10 shots from the floor in a 17-point game for Reardan and teammate Roy Walser was 6 of 6 in scoring 12.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 61 Liberty 55: Dylan Hartz hit 16 of 19 free throws in a 25-point game as the Broncos stayed alive. They will play Davenport in a loser-out game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mead. Match Burnham scored 18 for Liberty.

St. George’s 66, Kettle Falls 27: The Dragons, who got 26 points (20 in the first half) and seven rebounds from Will Tender, will play Reardan at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Spokane in a battle for survival.

District 7 2A

Medical Lake 51, Cheney 50: Kendyl Dunn’s two free throws in the final seconds gave the Cardinals (8-13) breathing room and negated a 3-pointer by the Blackhawks’ Evan Cook with four seconds left as the visitors held on in the loser-out game. Medical Lake plays at Pullman on Wednesday. CJ Skillingstad and Jon Miller scored 14 each for Cheney (11-10).

Clarkston 72, Deer Park 60: The Bantams (13-8) used the home court to their advantage, going 28 of 60 from the floor, including 10 of 24 from 3-point range, in eliminating the Stags (8-13). They will play at West Valley on Wednesday. Nathan Whittaker (16 points) and Kage Sobotta (12) both hit four 3s. Uconn Peone had five 3s in a 15-point game and Zach Mohr six 3s for 18 points for DP.

District 6 2B

Lake Roosevelt 73, Kittitas 36: Ty Egbert scored 26 for the Raiders (17-4). They play Oroville at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wenatchee High School.

District 7 2B

Reardan 74, Davenport 37: Katy Burge led three Indians (22-0) in double figures with 18 points as Reardan remained unbeaten heading into the championship game against Colfax on Friday night at Mt. Spokane. Miranda Mielke had a game-high 19 for the Gorillas (9-12).

Colfax 51, Northwest Christian 49 (OT): The Bulldogs (16-6) charged from an 11-point deficit after three quarters to force overtime at Mt. Spokane, then won it on Amelie Bruya’s two free throws with 4.7 seconds left in the extra session.

Five of Colfax’s eight scorers had 8 or more points, led by Taylor Larson’s 11. Treasure Farmer had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals for NWC (17-5).

St. George’s 50, Republic 40: Point guard Taryn Stamper’s 17 points led the Dragons (10-11) in the loser-out game at Mead. They will play NWC in another loser-out game Wednesday at Mt. Spokane. Brianna Brown’s 16 led the Tigers (14-8).

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 55, Kettle Falls 37: Davi Killian had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Broncos (11-10) past the Bulldogs (6-17) in the loser-out game at Mead. The Broncos play Davenport (9-12) Wednesday at 7:30. Josie Stanard led KF with 11 points.
