Zags, Cougars selected women’s hosts for 2013

McCarthey, Spokane Arena sites the first 2 weekends

Spokane continues to draw the right kind of attention, as the NCAA announced Monday that Gonzaga and Washington State universities have been selected to host 2013 women’s NCAA Division I basketball tournament games here.

Gonzaga is one of 16 institutions that will host the first and second rounds of the tournament.

Spokane was named a regional site and Washington State will host the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Bulldogs will host opening weekend play at the McCarthey Athletic Center on either Saturday, March 23 and Monday, March 25, or Sunday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 26, 2013.

The Cougars will host regional games on either Saturday, March 30 and Monday, April 1, or Sunday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

Dates will be finalized in June.

If the Bulldogs earn a bid to the 2013 tournament they will automatically be seeded at the McCarthey Athletic Center for the first two rounds, as is the case this year when they host first- and second-round games on March 17 and 19.

Tickets for this year’s first- and second-round games at McCarthey Athletic Center are currently on sale.
