Religion Notebook: Celtic service ushers in Lenten season

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will present a Celtic Communion service at 7 p.m. Wednesday to begin the Lenten season.

The service will feature the imposition of ashes, communion, reflections on desert spirituality, sung chants, Celtic prayers and music.

Events at St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will present the play “Our Town” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The play is directed by Ann Brueggemeier Benson and stars local actors.

Tickets are $5.

• St. Mark’s will also celebrate Fat Tuesday with a Jazz Mass at 7 p.m. Tuesday .

The music was composed by Dan Keberle, a music professor at Whitworth University. Local jazz musicians and St. Mark’s 50-voice choir will perform.

Movie night

Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, 4449 N. Nevada St., will show “The Wind and the Lion,” Friday at 7 p.m.

The movie stars Sean Connery as a North African bandit who kidnaps an American family. Brian Keith plays President Theodore Roosevelt.

Singles group

Christian Singles Fellowship’s monthly meeting is Saturday at 7 p.m. at North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison.

This month’s speaker will be Earl Dannen, who will discuss “The Measure of True Friendship.”
