DiCaprio-inspired brew raises funds

From Wire Reports

Leonardo DiCaprio likes his coffee smooth – a light roast, nectar-like, no bitterness. Just ask Todd Carmichael and Jean-Philippe Iberti, who spent more than a year perfecting a blend to suit the palate of the Hollywood star.

The founding partners of La Colombe, a Philadelphia-based roastery with cafes there and in New York and Chicago, paid repeated visits to DiCaprio’s West Hollywood abode to brew him single-batch roasts and to test blends, working to come up with a new La Colombe label that would bear DiCaprio’s signature.

That blend is called Lyon. It is being sold in Whole Foods and Williams-Sonoma stores, and, of course, in La Colombe cafes and on the La Colombe website. All of the net profits from the Lyon blend go to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, funding wildlife protection, forest preservation, clean-water projects, disaster relief and climate-change research around the globe.

Thicke nabbed on pot charge

Police say R&B singer-songwriter Robin Thicke has been arrested on a minor drug charge in New York. The 34-year-old is the son of Alan Thicke, who played patriarch Jason Seaver on the long-running ABC sitcom “Growing Pains.”

He was arrested Friday afternoon in Manhattan near Madison Square Park. Police say he was pulled over and they saw a joint inside his black SUV. He was given a desk appearance ticket and released.

Cannon won’t keep on ‘Rollin’ ’

Nick Cannon has stepped down from his New York City radio show. Cannon said in a statement on the 92.3 NOW website that Friday was his last day hosting the 2-year-old show, called “Rollin’.”

He said doctors had ordered him to cut back on his professional commitments and get more rest. Said Cannon: “Even Superman has to sleep.”

The 31-year-old entertainer was hospitalized last month after suffering from what his wife, Mariah Carey, called “mild kidney failure.” The couple became parents of twins, a son Moroccan and a daughter Monroe, last year.

Cannon said he’ll continue to host his syndicated weekend show.
