In brief: Sullivan Bridge repairs complete

From Local Reports

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city of Spokane Valley planned to fully open the Sullivan Bridge to traffic on Friday.

Traffic has been restricted to a single lane in each direction for several weeks as crews completed temporary repairs to the west bridge that carries southbound traffic.

The bridge is failing and weight restrictions were imposed last year to help slow the deterioration while the city seeks grant money to build a new one. Now that the repairs are complete the weight restrictions have been lifted.

Preliminary design work has already begun on a new bridge and the city has obtained $10 million of the estimated $19.7 million needed to build a new bridge.
